Te mapa
Arao lies in the far north-west of Kumamoto Prefecture, on the shore of the Ariake Sea and next to Omuta in Fukuoka. The coast here is lined with broad tidal flats, famous in Japan for their huge tidal range. Behind them, the city spreads over low ground and gentle hills.
Arao's history is closely tied to the Mitsui Miike coal mine. The Manda Pit, with its brick buildings and winding towers, is part of the UNESCO World Heritage listing for Japan's Meiji industrial revolution sites. Today the city is also known for Greenland, a large amusement park near the coast.
An Arao map poster brings together the straight shoreline, the rail line running parallel to it and the quiet residential streets inland. Former mining land and the open space of the amusement park add distinct shapes, making it a map with more history than its size suggests.
The shoreline runs along the western side of the city, with wide tidal flats that give the poster a large, calm area of water.
The former Mitsui Miike coal mine site, now a World Heritage property, marks the city's industrial past on its southern side.
The JR Kagoshima Main Line runs parallel to the coast, forming a long line through the city that ties it to Omuta and Kumamoto.

Koteā ko Arao
Arao connects people to Japan's industrial history, to childhood trips to the coast or to a family home on the Ariake Sea. A map poster captures all of that in a single calm image.
Add your own title and subtitle, perhaps in Japanese, and adjust the coordinates line. Choose from Classic black and white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint and Sand. Blueprint suits the industrial heritage particularly well.
