Te mapa
Kasuga lies just south of Fukuoka City on the level ground of the Fukuoka plain. It is small in area but densely populated, and on a map it appears almost entirely built up: a fine mesh of residential streets with a few larger blocks for schools, parks and public buildings, and no clear gap separating it from the neighbouring cities around it.
Two railways cross the city from north to south, the JR Kagoshima Main Line and the Nishitetsu Tenjin Ōmuta Line, both running into central Fukuoka, which explains how Kasuga grew as a commuter city. On the map these lines appear as long parallel strokes cutting through an otherwise even residential fabric of houses and apartment blocks.
Kasuga also has deep roots. The Suku-Okamoto site within the city is one of the key Yayoi-period archaeological sites in Japan, associated with the ancient state of Na recorded in Chinese chronicles. A Kasuga map poster places this long history beneath a modern layout, a quiet suburban grid that still holds traces of one of the earliest kingdoms in the archipelago.
The JR and Nishitetsu lines run north to south through the city, close to one another, forming the strongest straight lines on the poster.
The archaeological park at this Yayoi-period site appears as a small open space among houses, marking where rulers of ancient Na are thought to have been buried.
Streets of detached houses and apartment blocks fill nearly every part of the map, a tight, even texture typical of Japanese suburbs.

Koteā ko Kasuga
Kasuga appeals to families who raised children here, commuters who ride into Tenjin or Hakata every day, and anyone interested in Japan's earliest history. The even texture of its streets makes a calm, understated poster.
