Te mapa
Atalaya stands at one of the most significant river junctions in Peru. Here the Tambo and the Urubamba come together, and from this point the combined water is called the Ucayali, which flows north for a great distance before joining the Marañón to form the Amazon itself. The confluence is the defining feature of any map of the town.
The town is small, with a short grid of streets on the higher ground above the rivers and a waterfront where boats load and unload. Roads into the surrounding region are few, so rivers remain the main routes for travel and trade. The province around Atalaya is home to many Asháninka and other Indigenous communities.
An Atalaya map poster is dominated by water. Wide river channels, sandbars and curving banks take up much of the sheet, while the town occupies a modest cluster of blocks at the junction. It is a rare kind of map, one where the landscape clearly outweighs the settlement, and that gives it a quiet, spacious presence on a wall.
The Tambo and Urubamba join beside the town to form the Ucayali, a meeting of broad channels that anchors the entire composition of the map.
The waterfront is the working edge of Atalaya, where the street grid meets the river and boats connect the town with communities up and downstream.
Beyond the town, braided channels and shifting sandbars sit within wide expanses of rainforest, shown as open space that emphasises the rivers' shapes.

Koteā ko Atalaya
Atalaya is a place people reach by river and remember for its scale. Researchers, travellers and families from the region all find meaning in a map where the waters meet, and it makes a striking, uncluttered print.
Personalise the title, add a subtitle such as the year of a journey, and set the coordinates line. Blueprint suits the rivers well, though any of the five styles works, available as $9 downloadable files or a printed poster.
