Te mapa
Ayr lies on the west coast of Scotland, where the River Ayr meets the Firth of Clyde. The town is closely linked to Robert Burns, who was born in nearby Alloway on its southern edge, and his poem The Brigs of Ayr describes an imagined conversation between the town's old and new bridges across the river.
From above, Ayr's shape is clear: a long sandy beach and esplanade on the west, the river running out to the harbour, the town centre gathered on its south bank, and residential streets spreading inland. Ayr Racecourse, home of the Scottish Grand National, appears as a large oval on the eastern side of town.
An Ayr map poster brings these features together neatly. The coastline gives a strong open edge, the river divides the town into north and south, and the bridges stitch them together. It is a compact composition with plenty of detail and a clear sense of place.
The Auld Brig and New Bridge cross the River Ayr close together in the centre, the pair immortalised in Burns's poem.
A long curve of sand runs along the Firth of Clyde, giving the poster a clean coastline and wide area of open water.
Ayr Racecourse sits inland as a distinct oval track, one of the most recognisable shapes on the map of the town.
