Te mapa
Azamgarh lies on the Gangetic plain in eastern Uttar Pradesh, on the banks of the Tons river. From above, the river is the defining feature. It bends in broad curves around the older part of the town, so the densest streets sit on raised ground inside the meander, and fields and villages spread across the flat land beyond.
The town is generally dated to the seventeenth century, when a local chief named Azam Khan is said to have founded it, and it later became the seat of a district. Its centre is a close weave of market lanes and small courtyards rather than a planned grid, and a handful of main roads fan out towards neighbouring towns.
An Azamgarh map poster suits the place because the river supplies a natural frame. The looping water, the crossings over it and the way settlement thins out into farmland give the sheet a clear shape. The district is also known in Urdu literature, notably through Shibli Nomani, the scholar whose college still bears his name.
The river swings around the town in a series of wide curves, marking out the older quarters and giving the map a strong, organic outline.
Near the river the streets become narrow and irregular, forming a dense patch of fine lines that contrasts with the open plain around the town.
Several main roads leave the centre in different directions towards nearby towns, crossing the flat countryside in long, slightly curving strokes.

Koteā ko Azamgarh
Many people with roots in Azamgarh now live far away, in other Indian cities or abroad. A map of the river town is a quiet way to keep that origin in view, and it is more personal than a landscape photograph.
Add a family name, a neighbourhood or a date to the title and subtitle, and adjust the coordinates line if you want to. The design comes in five styles, from Classic black & white and Noir to Paper, Blueprint and Sand.
