Te mapa
Babati is the capital of Tanzania's Manyara Region and sits on the Great North Road between Arusha and Dodoma, in the highlands along the Great Rift Valley. On the map, the town's streets gather around the main road, and Lake Babati lies just to the south with its compact, rounded shoreline.
The lake is known locally for its hippos and draws visitors on canoe trips and walks. Mount Kwaraa rises nearby, and the surrounding land is mostly smallholder farming. Babati is also a common stop for travellers heading to Tarangire National Park and the Hanang area further along the road.
A Babati map poster brings together the main road, the modest town centre and the water of the lake at its edge. It is a clear, uncluttered image of an East African highland town, where farm tracks thread through the fields and the lake anchors the composition.
The small freshwater lake lies just south of town. Its outline is the main natural shape on the poster and home to a well-known hippo population.
The main highway between Arusha and Dodoma runs through town, and most of the streets are organised along it.
Around the town, a web of footpaths and rural roads crosses the fields, giving the poster a fine, loose texture at its edges.
