Te mapa
Bacuri lies in the north of Maranhão state in Brazil, in a coastal region where the Atlantic cuts deep into the land through estuaries, bays and tidal channels. Water dominates the map around the town: rivers that wind and branch toward the sea, broad areas of mangrove, and a coastline so indented that land and water interlock.
The town itself is modest, a compact set of streets close to the water, with roads leading inland across low, flat country toward neighbouring municipalities. In a region where boats and tides have long shaped daily life, the relationship between the settlement and its river is the essential feature of the plan.
The name is shared with the bacuri, a fruit tree native to the Amazon and to this part of northern Brazil, whose fruit is prized for juices and sweets. A Bacuri map poster presents a small town at the edge of a vast maze of water, where the lines of rivers and mangroves matter as much as the streets.
Rivers and creeks branch through the lowlands and widen toward the sea, filling the map with loops and curves shaped by the rise and fall of the tides.
Extensive mangroves line the estuaries, drawn as soft, broken margins between open water and solid ground.
The streets of the town form a small, clear cluster, set against the complex shapes of the surrounding waterways.

Koteā ko Bacuri
For people from Bacuri and the coast of Maranhão, and for anyone who knows the rhythm of tides and river boats, this map is a portrait of home in its landscape. The waterways make it one of the more intricate small-town maps to hang.
