Te mapa
Ananindeua lies immediately east of Belém in the state of Pará, and the two cities have grown together into a single metropolitan area near the mouth of the Amazon. Its main axis is the BR-316 highway, the principal road out of Belém, which runs straight through the city. On the map, most of the urban fabric is arranged along this corridor and on either side of it.
Away from the highway, the street pattern consists of dense, mostly regular blocks of housing estates and neighbourhoods, many built in the late twentieth century. Small streams, known locally as igarapés, and areas of low wetland interrupt the grid and leave winding green strips. Toward the northern edge the land becomes wetter, and rivers and forest take the place of streets.
Ananindeua is the second most populous city in Pará after Belém and home to many families who work across the metropolitan area. The climate is hot and humid all year, and green space survives wherever streams and wet ground have held back construction. An Ananindeua map poster shows the city on its own terms, with its highway spine, housing grids and streams.
The main highway out of Belém runs straight through Ananindeua and forms the central spine of the map, with neighbourhoods and commercial strips lined up along both sides.
Large residential areas built in regular blocks fill much of the city. Between the highway and the streams they form even rectangular patterns that give the poster a fine, consistent texture.
Small Amazonian streams wind through the urban area, bordered by strips of vegetation. They break the street grid into irregular pieces across the map.
