Te mapa
Abaetetuba lies in the state of Pará, in the lower Tocantins estuary southwest of Belém. On a map the town sits on the mainland shore, while across the water lies a dense archipelago of islands separated by channels and creeks. Much of the municipality is water and forest, with the urban area occupying a relatively small part of the frame.
Life here is closely tied to the rivers. Many communities live on the islands in riverside houses reached mainly by boat, harvesting açaí and fishing. The town is well known for miriti toys, colourful figures carved from the soft stalks of the buriti palm, a craft tradition celebrated in local festivals and closely associated with Abaetetuba.
An Abaetetuba map poster shows a town that is inseparable from its waterways: a compact street grid on the shore, and an intricate pattern of islands and channels beyond. In black and white the river network reads like a fine drawing, giving the design depth and a sense of place that goes well beyond the streets themselves.
Across from the town, dozens of forested islands are separated by winding channels, forming the most intricate and characteristic part of the map.
The urban area sits on the mainland shore, its streets running back from the waterfront where boats connect the town to island communities.
Wide channels and narrow creeks thread through the landscape, part of the vast estuary system where the Tocantins meets the waters near the Amazon mouth.

Koteā ko Abaetetuba
For people from Abaetetuba and the surrounding islands, the rivers are as much home as the town itself. A map poster of the islands and channels holds that relationship in one image, a fitting gift for family living far from Pará.
Personalise the title, subtitle and coordinates, perhaps naming an island community or a year. Choose Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand, and download HD files or order a matte printed poster.
