Te mapa
São Luís lies on an island off the northern coast of Brazil, and its map is shaped by water on every side. The Anil and Bacanga rivers meet the sea near the old centre, forming broad estuaries with mangroves along their banks. The tides here are among the largest in Brazil, and the shoreline shifts visibly between high and low water.
The historic centre, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is a grid of streets lined with colonial buildings, many faced with Portuguese tiles. São Luís was founded by the French in 1612, the only Brazilian state capital with French origins. The city is also known as a capital of reggae in Brazil, a tradition that is part of local culture.
A São Luís map poster shows an island city framed by rivers, bays and ocean beaches. The old grid sits on a peninsula between the estuaries, while newer districts spread toward the Atlantic coast. It is a map where water and city are closely interwoven.

Two rivers meeting the sea on either side of the old town, with bridges crossing them to newer districts and mangroves lining their banks.
A long ocean coastline on the island's northern side, where beaches and seafront avenues form a gently curving edge along the open sea.
