Te mapa
Balcarce lies in the southeast of Buenos Aires province, where the flat pampas meet the low ridges of the Tandilia system. On the map, the town is a classic Argentine grid of square blocks centred on a main plaza. Around it, farmland spreads in large rectangular plots, and the hills rise to the south and west.
The town is best known as the birthplace of Juan Manuel Fangio, who won the Formula One world championship five times. A museum dedicated to him is in the centre of town. The racing circuit that bears his name sits on the hills nearby. The area is also a major potato-growing region, and research farms and processing plants dot the countryside.
A Balcarce map poster shows the order of a pampas town: straight streets, square blocks and a plaza at the centre. The curves of the nearby hills and the circuit give the map a contrasting shape. For motor-racing fans, it is a quiet tribute to one of the sport's great drivers, told through streets rather than cars.
The town follows a regular grid of square blocks centred on its main plaza, a pattern typical of towns on the Argentine pampas.
Low, rounded hills rise near the town and break up the flat plain with softer shapes and winding roads.
The racing circuit named after Juan Manuel Fangio lies in the hills outside town, a looping line that stands apart from the grid.
