Te mapa
Balmazújváros lies in Hajdú-Bihar county in eastern Hungary, northwest of Debrecen and on the edge of the Hortobágy, the wide grassland that forms Hungary's first national park. The land is almost completely flat, and the town spreads over it without any hills or rivers to bend its streets.
The result is a clear, open plan. Main roads come in from neighbouring towns and meet near the centre. Long residential streets of single-storey houses and deep plots run between them, as in many towns of the Great Plain. Beyond the last gardens, the land opens into fields, pasture and scattered farmsteads.
A Balmazújváros map poster reads like a diagram of plains life: a compact centre, streets reaching outwards, and a large, quiet landscape all around. The emptiness of the Hortobágy at the edge of the frame is part of the design, a reminder of how much space surrounds the town.
Several roads converge on the town centre from different directions. They form a loose star shape that organises the whole street plan.
Residential streets run long and straight, lined with houses on deep plots, a typical pattern of Great Plain market towns that gives the map an even rhythm.
To the west and north the built area gives way to the open steppe of the Hortobágy, with only a few thin roads and tracks crossing it.
