Te mapa
Ban Tha Kham lies in Bang Khun Thian, Bangkok's southwestern district, the only part of the capital that reaches the Gulf of Thailand. This is a transitional landscape. Housing estates and factories line the main roads, while the land behind them is crossed by khlongs and divided into ponds and low-lying plots that run down toward the coast.
On the map, the canals set the pattern. They run in long, straight lines, some following old field boundaries, and roads and lanes often run beside them. Residential sois branch off in short cul-de-sacs, giving the district a comb-like texture that looks very different from central Bangkok.
A Ban Tha Kham map poster shows this water-and-land geometry: the dense built-up strips, the parallel canals and the open rectangles of ponds and fields. In monochrome the patchwork becomes almost abstract, a map of a city meeting its delta.
Long, straight canals cross the district. Their parallel lines set the orientation of roads and plots and give the map its main rhythm.
Short residential lanes branch off the main roads in dense rows. On the print they look like the teeth of a comb.
Southward, housing thins out into ponds and wetland near the coast. It gives the composition wide, open areas.

Koteā ko Ban Tha Kham
For people living on the edges of Bangkok, Ban Tha Kham is home in its own right, not a distant suburb. A poster of its canals and lanes gives that neighbourhood proper recognition on the wall.
