Te mapa
Bandar Lampung sits at the southern end of Sumatra, at the head of Lampung Bay, looking toward the Sunda Strait and Java. The city was formed by joining two older towns: Tanjung Karang on the higher ground inland and Teluk Betung on the coast. On the map, those two centres are still visible, connected by roads that descend toward the sea.
The landscape is much less flat than in most Sumatran cities. Hills rise within and around the urban area, and streets curve to follow them, giving a Bandar Lampung map poster a more organic pattern than a standard grid. On the coast, the port of Panjang and the waterfront districts follow the bay's irregular shoreline.
As the main gateway between Sumatra and Java, the city is on the principal route to the ferry at Bakauheni on the strait. The volcanic island of Krakatau lies in the Sunda Strait to the south-west. Its 1883 eruption is one of the most destructive in recorded history, and the tsunami it caused also struck the Lampung coast.
The city curves around the head of the bay. The coastline, port and waterfront districts form the southern boundary of the map.
Upland Tanjung Karang and coastal Teluk Betung are linked by roads that descend toward the water. Their two centres remain visible in the street pattern.
Wooded hills rise between neighbourhoods. The streets bend and wrap around them, creating a less regular layout than most cities on the plains.
