Bānki is a town in the Cuttack district of Odisha, on the banks of the Mahanadi. From above the river dominates everything. The Mahanadi here is broad, with a wide bed of sand and shifting channels, and the town sits along its edge. Its streets form a compact cluster close to the water, with roads leading inland across farmland.
The area is known for the temple of the goddess Charchika, an important place of worship for people across the region. Around the town, the land is green and cultivated, laced with small watercourses and village roads.
