Te mapa
Barbacena is a city in the south of Minas Gerais, Brazil, set high in the Serra da Mantiqueira at over a thousand metres above sea level. On a map, the terrain shapes nearly everything. The streets follow ridges and bend around hilltops, and the neighbourhoods spread in irregular patches across the uplands.
The city is known as the city of roses, a name that comes from the flower growing that the cool highland climate supports. It is also home to EPCAR, the preparatory school for Brazilian Air Force cadets. A major highway passes nearby, linking the region with Belo Horizonte to the north and Rio de Janeiro to the south.
A Barbacena map poster shows a city that has had to work with its hills. There are no long, straight avenues. The streets curve and fork across the slopes, and the older centre sits on higher ground with the rest of the city spreading down and outward. In black and white, the pattern looks almost like a contour map.
The older part of the city sits on high ground, and its streets follow the shape of the ridge. Churches and squares mark the centre within the curving street pattern.
Roads bend around hills and follow valleys rather than forming a grid. The result is a flowing, irregular pattern that makes the terrain visible even on a flat map.
Barbacena sits in the Mantiqueira uplands, and its cool climate has made it known for growing roses. The surrounding hills and farmland frame the city on every side.

Koteā ko Barbacena
For people who grew up in Barbacena, studied at EPCAR or simply know its cool highland air, a map of the city's winding streets is a personal link to Minas Gerais.
Personalise the poster with a title, subtitle and coordinates line, perhaps marking a family name or a year. Choose from five styles. Sand gives warmth to the hills, and Blueprint shows the curves in clean lines.
