Te mapa
Ubá lies in the Zona da Mata of southeastern Minas Gerais, a region of rolling hills that were once covered by Atlantic forest. The town does not sit on a flat plain, and the map shows it clearly: streets bend along valley floors, climb in short switchbacks and break off where the ground becomes too steep, leaving green gaps between neighbourhoods.
The central area is denser and more regular, with a small grid around the main squares, and development stretches outward along the roads that follow the lower ground. The result is an uneven, branching outline rather than a round town, shaped by topography much more than by planning.
Ubá is known as one of Brazil's major furniture-making centres, and it is the birthplace of Ary Barroso, the composer of Aquarela do Brasil. An Ubá map poster captures a working town that has grown into its landscape, its layout still tracing the lines of the hills.
Main roads follow the lower ground between hills, so the town grows in long branches rather than spreading evenly in every direction.
The historic core forms a tighter block of streets and squares, visibly more ordered than the winding neighbourhoods that surround it.
Steep slopes left undeveloped appear as open spaces between districts, giving the map a broken, rhythmic pattern of built and empty areas.
