Te mapa
Barra do Dande lies on the Atlantic coast of Angola, in Bengo Province, north of Luanda. As its name suggests, it sits at the barra, the mouth of the Dande River, where the river meets the sea. From above the map is shaped by two strong elements: the coastline running north-south and the river valley cutting inland from it.
The settlement is spread out rather than dense, with roads following the coast and the river and scattered neighbourhoods in between. The Dande valley is greener than the dry coastal land around it, and on a map the river's curves and floodplain stand out clearly against the straighter lines of the coast road.
A Barra do Dande map poster is less about a street grid and more about landscape: the edge of the ocean, the winding river mouth and the roads connecting the settlement to Luanda and the north. It is a spacious, open composition that suits anyone who knows this stretch of the Angolan coast.
The river reaches the Atlantic here, and its final curves and sandbars form the most distinctive shape on the map, the place the settlement is named after.
A long coastline forms the western edge of the frame, a strong, simple line that gives the map a clear sense of direction and scale.
Roads run along the coast and follow the river inland, connecting the scattered settlement to Luanda to the south and to the rest of Bengo Province.
