Te mapa
Barus is on the west coast of North Sumatra, facing the Indian Ocean. On a map it is a shoreline town. Streets run parallel to the coast, a river mouth breaks the beach, and houses and gardens spread inland toward rising, wooded ground. The coastline itself makes a long, gently curving edge that anchors the whole composition.
The place has a very long history as a port. For centuries Barus was known across the Indian Ocean world for camphor and benzoin, aromatic resins from the Sumatran forests, and the name appears in early foreign records of the trade. Old tomb complexes on the hills nearby are linked with the early arrival of Islam in the region.
A Barus map poster sets coast, town and hills against one another. The ocean occupies one side of the frame, and the town follows the shore with roads running inland. In black and white, the long coastline and the calm open water give the print a spacious, quiet balance.
The town lines a long, open stretch of shoreline facing the Indian Ocean. The sea forms a clean, empty edge that dominates one side of the print.
A river reaches the sea near the town, cutting across the coastal strip. Its curving course adds a natural focal point to the street pattern.
Wooded hills rise behind the coastal plain, home to historic tomb sites. On the map, roads climbing inland give way to open, green ground.

Koteā ko Barus
Barus is a hometown for many North Sumatrans and a place of history for others. A map of its coast and streets is a calm way to remember it, whether you live in Medan, Jakarta or overseas.
You can personalise the title, subtitle and coordinates, perhaps with a family name or a date. Choose from Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint and Sand. Noir makes the ocean edge especially bold.
