Te mapa
Batu Caves is a town in the Gombak district of Selangor, just north of Kuala Lumpur. From above, the defining feature is a large limestone hill that rises sharply from the surrounding low ground. Streets and housing wrap around its base but cannot climb it, so the hill appears on the map as a distinct, mostly empty shape.
Inside the hill, a series of caves contains one of the best-known Hindu shrines outside India, dedicated to Lord Murugan. A long flight of 272 steps leads up to the main cave, and a tall golden statue of Murugan stands at the foot. Each year the Thaipusam festival draws very large crowds of pilgrims and visitors.
A Batu Caves map poster balances that natural mass against the suburban grid around it. Roads, railway and residential blocks fill the lowland, while the hill remains a calm, open area near the centre. The commuter rail line ends here, connecting the town directly with the capital.

The temple complex sits at the foot of the hill, where the stairway to the main cave begins. It is the focal point of the town.
The commuter line from Kuala Lumpur ends at Batu Caves, bringing a clear line of track into the composition and linking the town to the city.
