Te mapa
Berastagi sits at roughly 1,300 metres on the Karo plateau of North Sumatra, a cool upland a couple of hours' drive from Medan. The town is small and informal on the map: a main road runs through it, with streets branching off to either side and quickly fading into farmland. That road is the one linking Medan with Kabanjahe, and it shapes nearly everything.
Two volcanoes frame the town. Mount Sibayak rises to the north and Mount Sinabung to the west, the latter active in recent years, and on a clean map they appear as blank space that makes the settlement look even more compact. Around the edges, farm tracks follow the terrain, softer and more irregular than the streets in the centre.
Berastagi is known across Sumatra for its fruit and vegetable market, supplied by the volcanic soils of the plateau, and as a weekend retreat for people escaping the heat of the lowlands. A Berastagi map poster records that highland town in simple strokes, the main road, the side streets and the fields, without any of the colour that normally defines it.
The main route up from the lowlands runs straight through the centre, the backbone from which almost every other street in Berastagi branches out toward the fields.
With Sibayak and Sinabung nearby, much of the land around town is steep and unbuilt, leaving the settlement as a small, dense cluster on a wide open plateau.
At the edges, streets turn into narrow tracks between vegetable plots, so the map dissolves gradually rather than stopping at a hard boundary.

Koteā ko Berastagi
For visitors, Berastagi is often the cool stop on a trip through North Sumatra, and for Karo families it is simply home. Either way, the map is a restrained way to keep a place that is usually remembered in colour, smell and weather.
You can change the title and subtitle, for example to add the year of a trip, and edit the coordinates line. The Paper and Sand styles suit a highland town especially well, alongside Classic black & white, Noir and Blueprint. HD files cost $9.
