Te mapa
Bolshevik Island is the second-largest island in the Severnaya Zemlya archipelago, in the Russian Arctic between the Kara and Laptev Seas. From above it is a broad, irregular shape. Ice caps cover part of it, and the rest is bare, frost-shattered plateau cut by river valleys. There are no towns or roads, so the map is made only of coastline, ice and relief.
To the south, the Vilkitsky Strait separates the island from the Taymyr Peninsula, whose tip at Cape Chelyuskin is the northernmost point of mainland Eurasia. To the north, the Shokalsky Strait divides it from October Revolution Island. A Bolshevik Island map poster shows this setting: a heavy island placed between two narrow, often frozen channels.
Severnaya Zemlya was among the last large land areas on Earth to be charted. A Russian hydrographic expedition sighted it in 1913, but it was mapped in detail only in the early 1930s by Georgy Ushakov and Nikolai Urvantsev, who gave the islands their Soviet-era names. Bolshevik Island has hosted polar research stations, but it has no permanent population.
The strait along the island's southern shore is a key passage on the Northern Sea Route. On the map it is a narrow band of water between the island and the tip of Asia.
Several ice caps cover parts of the island with smooth, domed surfaces. They contrast with the ice-free ground, where rivers and valleys cut detailed patterns into the land.
The channel to the north that separates Bolshevik Island from October Revolution Island. It completes the island's frame of water and hints at the rest of the archipelago.

Koteā ko Bolshevik Island
Bolshevik Island is a poster for polar historians, Northern Sea Route navigators, geographers, and people drawn to a place charted less than a century ago. With no streets, the print is spare and sculptural, all outline and ice.
The title, subtitle and coordinates line can all be changed, so you can add the Russian name, Ostrov Bolshevik, or a date. Choose Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand. Download the $9 HD files in six sizes or order a matte print.
