Bouknadel lies on Morocco's Atlantic coast, a short distance north of Salé and Rabat, in the region of Rabat-Salé-Kénitra. The map is defined by the ocean on one side and a coastal road running parallel to it, with the town gathered along that road and farmland, woodland and sandy ground spreading inland.
The town is best known for the Exotic Gardens of Bouknadel, created in the mid-twentieth century by the horticulturist Marcel François, with planted sections evoking landscapes from different parts of the world. On the map the gardens appear as a patch of green texture near the road, and the long, straight shoreline gives the whole composition a strong edge.
