Bresso lies immediately north of Milan, in Lombardy, part of the continuous built-up area that surrounds the city. On a map its streets form a tight, busy mesh of blocks, but one side opens abruptly onto a large expanse of green: the airfield and the parkland of Parco Nord Milano.
That open ground has hosted memorable gatherings. In 2012 the area at Bresso was the site of an open-air papal Mass held during the World Meeting of Families, drawing a very large crowd. Most days, however, it is a place for walking, cycling and light aircraft rather than ceremony.
