Te mapa
Brockton grew in the nineteenth century as a shoe-manufacturing centre, and its map still has the shape of a mill city. Several old roads come in from the surrounding towns and meet at a compact downtown. A commuter rail line runs north to south through the middle, beside the former factory blocks.
Outside the centre, the streets form a dense patchwork of residential grids at slightly different angles, each laid out as the city expanded. To the north, D.W. Field Park adds a long band of ponds, woods and winding park roads. It is the largest green space on the map, and the only part with curves.
Brockton also has a notable place in the history of electricity. In the 1880s, Thomas Edison's company built one of its early three-wire central power stations here, and the city became one of the first to light its streets and a theatre with it. Brockton is also known as the City of Champions, after the boxers Rocky Marciano and Marvin Hagler. A Brockton map poster keeps all of this in one plain, working street plan.

A chain of ponds and wooded parkland runs through the north of the city. Its curving roads and water are a clear contrast to the grid.
A commuter railway runs straight through Brockton from north to south. It once served the shoe factories and still divides the city plan in two.

Koteā ko Brockton
Brockton is a city that people identify with strongly, whether through its factories, its boxers or the neighbourhood where they grew up. A map of its streets gives that attachment a quiet, graphic form.
Add a street name, a graduation year or a family name, and the coordinates of home. Pick from Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint and Sand. Noir suits Brockton's industrial character especially well.
