Te mapa
Budhni sits on the north bank of the Narmada in Madhya Pradesh, directly across the river from Narmadapuram, formerly Hoshangabad. The broad river is the main element of any map of the town. It is a wide band of water with sandy banks, and the town's streets are laid out along it, with ghats and lanes leading down to the edge.
The main railway between Bhopal and Itarsi passes through Budhni, and the tracks cross the map in a long line parallel to the settlement. North of the town, the land rises toward forested hills, so the built-up area remains a relatively narrow strip between the slopes and the river.
Budhni is known for its lacquered wooden toys, a craft carried on by local artisans. A Budhni map poster does not show the workshops, but it does capture the setting: a riverside town drawn in fine lines against the broad shape of the Narmada, with its twin city visible across the water.
One of central India's great rivers fills much of the frame, and Budhni's streets line up along its northern bank.
Across the river, Narmadapuram's denser street pattern mirrors Budhni. The two towns face each other over the water.
The Bhopal–Itarsi line runs beside the town in a long straight stroke, separating the riverside streets from the rising ground to the north.
