Achalpur lies in Amravati district in Maharashtra's Vidarbha region, near the foothills of the Satpura range. On a map it forms a twin town with Paratwada. The two built-up areas meet along connecting roads, and together they make a larger urban shape than either would alone.
The older part of Achalpur has denser, more irregular streets that reflect its long history, while newer areas spread out in looser patterns. To the north the land rises toward the forested Melghat hills. Farmland covers the surrounding plain, crossed by small rivers and roads.
