Te mapa
Bulacan is a municipality in the province of the same name in Central Luzon, on the northern shore of Manila Bay. It is one of the province's older towns and is best known as the birthplace of Marcelo H. del Pilar, a writer and campaigner in the Philippine reform movement. From above, its geography is dominated by low land and water.
The town centre sits a short way inland along a river, with streets gathered around the church and plaza in the Spanish colonial pattern. Toward the coast, the map turns into a grid of fishponds separated by thin embankments and cut by winding tidal channels. The coast is also the site of a large new airport project on reclaimed land along the bay.
A Bulacan map poster captures this meeting of town and tide. The compact centre, the winding rivers and the geometric fishponds at the shoreline produce a composition that looks almost woven, especially in the larger print sizes. It also records a coast in the middle of major change.
Near Manila Bay, embanked fishponds form a grid of irregular rectangles, a finely divided pattern that covers much of the southern part of the map.
Rivers and creeks wind through the lowland toward the bay, drawing flowing lines through the otherwise angular fishpond landscape.
The older centre gathers around a church and plaza, with a small, regular set of streets typical of colonial-era towns in Luzon.
