Te mapa
Valenzuela forms the northern gateway of Metro Manila, bordering the province of Bulacan. From above, its western side is striking: a patchwork of fishponds and low wetland crossed by small rivers and creeks, while the eastern side fills with factories, warehouses and dense residential streets that press against the North Luzon Expressway.
Formerly known as Polo, the city was renamed after Pío Valenzuela, a physician and leader of the Katipunan revolutionary society who was born here. Rivers such as the Tullahan run through the area, and the network of waterways gives the map a watery complexity uncommon in the rest of the capital region.
A Valenzuela map poster captures the contrast between the fine lines of the waterways and the heavy blocks of the industrial zones. The expressway cuts north to south through the city, a clear reminder of its role as the capital's link to central Luzon.
Rectangular fishponds and wetlands fill the western part of the city, creating a geometric pattern of water that looks almost like a second street grid.
The Tullahan and other waterways wind through Valenzuela, dividing districts and giving the map a network of soft, curving lines.
The North Luzon Expressway runs through the city, a strong straight line linking Metro Manila with Bulacan and the provinces to the north.
