Te mapa
Burayu lies in Oromia, directly on the western edge of Addis Ababa, on the Ethiopian highlands. It has grown quickly in recent decades as the capital's population has spilled out. From above, the town looks like a series of new neighbourhoods stretching away from the main road toward the west, with the older core close to the highway.
The land is hilly and cut by small streams. Some streets follow the contours, while newer districts are laid out in regular blocks on flatter ground. On the Burayu map poster you can see this mix of planned and unplanned growth, and how the town merges with the outer neighbourhoods of the capital on its eastern side.
The town is a separate municipality from Addis Ababa, although in practice the two are closely linked by daily movement of people and goods. Because it is so new, much of the street network is still being built. That makes a map of Burayu a record of the town at a particular moment in its growth.
The main road leading west out of Addis Ababa passes through Burayu. Settlement is densest along it, and the road forms the spine of the map.
On the slopes, streets curve to follow the terrain. Their irregular lines contrast with the grids in the newer, flatter districts.
The eastern side of the map shows Burayu merging with the outer neighbourhoods of Addis Ababa. There is no clear visible boundary between them.

Koteā ko Burayu
For people who have built a house here or moved to the area recently, a Burayu print captures the place as it is now. That matters in a town where the streets change from year to year.
You can mark the title with a family name, a street or the year you moved in, and edit the subtitle and coordinates. Choose from Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint and Sand. Sand suits the highland landscape.
