Burewala is a city in Vehari district of Punjab, in the flat, canal-watered lands between the Sutlej and the Ravi. Seen from above, its map shows a clear urban centre of markets and residential streets, surrounded on every side by farmland divided into regular plots by roads and canals.
The area is best known for cotton, and the town grew as a centre for ginning, textiles and the grain trade serving the surrounding villages. Like much of this part of Punjab, the landscape was transformed by colonial-era canal irrigation, which turned dry plains into some of the most productive farmland in the country.
