Te mapa
Buri Ram is the capital of Buriram Province in Isan, northeastern Thailand, on the broad, flat Khorat Plateau. The town has a compact centre of markets, shophouses and government buildings, and on a map it quickly gives way to rice fields dotted with ponds and small reservoirs.
In recent years Buri Ram has become known far beyond Isan for sport. The Chang Arena football stadium and the Chang International Circuit, which hosts international motorcycle racing, stand just outside the centre. The province is also home to the Khmer temple of Phanom Rung, built on an extinct volcano to the south.
A Buri Ram map poster shows a town that is changing: the older grid at the centre, newer roads reaching outward and the large shapes of the sports venues, all set among flat farmland. In black and white, the circuit's curves stand out distinctly against the regular lines of the town.
The racing circuit on the edge of town is one of the most recognisable shapes on the map, its looping track contrasting with straight roads and fields.
Markets, shophouses and offices form a compact core laid out in fairly regular blocks, the oldest and densest part of the city.
Rice fields and small water bodies surround the town on the flat plateau, giving the edges of the map a light, scattered texture.
