Te mapa
Burutu is a town where water sets the terms. It lies in the western Niger Delta near the Forcados River, and from above the built-up area is a narrow strip of land between winding channels. The streets are short and packed together, and the creeks around them branch, loop and rejoin in the complicated way delta rivers do.
Burutu grew as a trading port in the colonial period, when cargo moved between ocean vessels and river craft along the Forcados route into the interior. Its waterfront once handled a large share of the region's river traffic. Today it is a local government headquarters in Delta State, and boats are still an ordinary way of getting around.
A Burutu map poster is mostly about water. The land prints as small islands of street pattern, and the channels between them give the frame more movement than a typical town map. For people from the delta, that tangle of creeks is instantly recognizable.
Broad river channels border the town and split into smaller creeks, forming curved shapes that dominate the poster's composition.
The town's streets end sharply at the water, and that crisp boundary shows how closely the settlement has always depended on the river.
Around the town, land breaks into irregular islands and mangrove fringes. On the map they read as fragments of land surrounded by water.

This map is for people with family ties to Burutu and the Ijaw creeks, and for anyone who knows the river approach to the town. It shows the place as it is really lived, on land that always meets water.
The title, subtitle and coordinates line can be personalized, and there are five styles: Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint and Sand. Blueprint makes the waterways especially striking.
