Te mapa
Caicara, often called Caicara de Maturín, is a town in Monagas state in eastern Venezuela. It lies in the open country of the eastern plains, a region of savanna, wetlands and scattered forest. From above, the town is a modest grid set in a large, mostly flat landscape, with roads leading out toward Maturín and other towns in the state.
The centre follows the pattern common to Venezuelan towns, with regular blocks laid out around a main square. Houses spread out along the main roads at the edges, and the grid becomes looser before giving way to fields and pasture. Small rivers and creeks wind across the plain, their courses often marked by lines of trees.
A Caicara map poster shows a small town and the wide country that surrounds it. The block pattern is compact and orderly, and the rest of the frame is open land crossed by only a few lines. It is a calm, spare image of a place that is rarely drawn.
The historic blocks are laid out around a main plaza, following the plan of many Venezuelan towns. It is the fixed point of the map.
A few main roads leave the town across the plain. They connect Caicara with Maturín and the wider region and frame the composition.
Beyond the streets, winding watercourses and open land fill the map. Their irregular lines contrast with the straight blocks of the town.

Koteā ko Caicara
Many Venezuelans have left their hometowns in recent years. A map of Caicara, with its square and its roads out into the plain, is a quiet way of keeping home present.
Put the town name in the title, add a family name or year as the subtitle, and adjust the coordinates line. Classic black and white suits the neat grid. Sand and Paper bring warmth to the open savanna.
