Central grid
Square blocks extend from the main plaza in the Spanish colonial manner. This gives the centre an orderly chequerboard look that stands out against the uneven terrain.

Te mapa
Camiri lies in the south of Santa Cruz Department, where the last ridges of the Andes descend toward the Gran Chaco. From above, the town is a fairly regular grid of blocks set in a valley and bordered by hills and forested slopes. The Parapetí River runs nearby, and roads lead north and south along the foothills.
Camiri is widely known in Bolivia as the country's oil capital. It earned the title in the twentieth century, when oil fields in the area became central to national production. The industry left its marks on the edges of town. The centre keeps the square blocks and central plaza found in many Bolivian towns.
A Camiri map poster frames the town between its hills and its river: a contained settlement in a wide, wooded landscape. In black and white, the grid of the centre, the curve of the river and the roads winding into the foothills make a composition with clear edges and a strong sense of setting.
Square blocks extend from the main plaza in the Spanish colonial manner. This gives the centre an orderly chequerboard look that stands out against the uneven terrain.
The river runs past the town through the foothills. Its winding line and broad bed add a natural curve to the otherwise regular street pattern.
Wooded ridges rise around the valley, and roads cross them in long bends. They mark where the Andes give way to the Chaco lowlands.

Koteā ko Camiri
Camiri has sent workers, engineers and families across Bolivia and abroad, many of them tied to the oil industry that shaped the town. A map of its streets is a natural way to remember a hometown or a posting, whether you live in Santa Cruz, La Paz or much further away.
