Çerkeş is a district town in Çankırı Province, in the north of Central Anatolia, set among rolling hills and farmland. From above, the built-up area is compact and slightly elongated. The main streets follow the valley floor, and smaller lanes climb gently onto the slopes on either side. Fields and open ground come right up to the edge of town.
The town lies on a long-established east-west route across northern Anatolia, and the main road through it gives the map a clear spine. Around that line the street pattern is informal rather than gridded. There are irregular blocks, short connecting lanes and pockets of newer, more regular housing at the edges.
