Chak is a town in upper Sindh, Pakistan, on the broad, flat plain of the Indus. The land here is almost entirely level, and the map shows it. Roads run long and straight, the town forms a compact cluster, and the countryside is divided by canals, watercourses and field boundaries.
This part of Sindh depends on irrigation. Canals fed by the Indus barrage system carry water across the plain, and farming follows their lines. On the map, the canals are among the most noticeable features. Their long, slightly curving paths cut across the grid of fields and connect the town to the agricultural land around it.
