Te mapa
Channarāyapatna is a town in Hassan district, Karnataka, on the main highway connecting Bengaluru with the coast at Mangaluru. On a map the highway forms a strong line through town, with a denser older core beside it and residential areas spreading out among tanks, coconut groves and fields of the Deccan plateau.
The town is best known as the gateway to Shravanabelagola, a few kilometres away, where a giant monolithic statue of Gommateshwara stands on Vindhyagiri hill. It is one of the most important Jain pilgrimage sites in India, and many travellers pass through Channarāyapatna on their way there.
A Channarāyapatna map poster shows the practical shape of a highway town: a busy spine, a compact centre and roads branching toward villages. The irrigation tanks, common across this part of Karnataka, appear as smooth, rounded shapes in the landscape and give the black-and-white composition a gentle counterpoint to the straight roads.
The Bengaluru–Mangaluru road runs straight through town and organises the map, with shops and services gathered along it and residential streets behind.
Traditional water tanks around the town appear as smooth, rounded shapes on the map, a characteristic feature of the landscape of southern Karnataka.
Roads lead from town toward the nearby Jain pilgrimage site of Shravanabelagola, famous for its monolithic statue of Gommateshwara on the hilltop.
