Te mapa
Charlottenlund lies just north of Copenhagen, in Gentofte Municipality, facing the Øresund. On a map it splits into two parts. Along the water, Strandvejen and the shoreline form a long, curving edge. Inland, quiet residential streets of villas and gardens wind between the coast road and the railway, with none of the dense blocks of the inner city.
The area takes its name from Charlottenlund Palace, which stands in a wooded park near the coast. North of it are Charlottenlund Forest and the beach park around the old coastal fort. Together these green areas form a large open patch on the map, framed by paths, the sea and the lines of the surrounding streets.
A Charlottenlund map poster captures a very Danish kind of suburb: prosperous, leafy and close to the water. The trotting track, the palace grounds and the forest all show up as distinct shapes. Between them, the curving villa roads create a softer, more organic pattern than the grids you find in many other suburbs.
The coastline and Strandvejen run side by side along the eastern edge, forming a long, clean line where the streets stop and the water begins.
Charlottenlund Palace park and the forest to its north form one continuous green area of paths and clearings, the largest open space on the map.
Inland, curving residential roads and garden plots give the suburb its fine, irregular texture, very different from Copenhagen's apartment grid.
