Te mapa
Chiapa de Corzo sits on the Grijalva River, just east of Tuxtla Gutiérrez in the state of Chiapas. From above, the town is a colonial grid of streets running back from the riverbank to a broad central plaza. The river curves along the edge of town, and to the north its valley narrows into the high walls of the Sumidero Canyon, which boats leave from the town's landing to explore.
The plaza holds La Pila, a sixteenth-century brick fountain built in a Mudéjar style that has become the symbol of the town. Every January, the Fiesta Grande fills the streets with the Parachicos, dancers in carved wooden masks, a tradition UNESCO lists as intangible cultural heritage. The area was inhabited long before the Spanish arrived, and an ancient archaeological site lies at the edge of town.
A Chiapa de Corzo map poster centres on the relationship between the plaza, the grid and the river. The streets run straight and orderly to the water, while the Grijalva brings a wide, curving line and the hills around the valley close in to the north. It is a compact, well-balanced composition with a clear sense of place.

The broad river runs along the edge of town, with the boat landing where trips into the Sumidero Canyon begin.
Straight streets laid out in regular blocks run from the plaza down towards the water, a pattern typical of Spanish colonial planning.
