Te mapa
Chibuto is a town in Gaza Province in southern Mozambique, set in the low, flat country of the Limpopo river basin. On the map, the centre has a modest grid of streets, a legacy of colonial-era planning, while the outer areas become looser, with tracks and paths running between homesteads and cultivated plots.
The Changane River, a tributary of the Limpopo, flows nearby, and the surrounding plains are used for farming and grazing. The region has also drawn attention for its heavy mineral sands deposits. Main roads link Chibuto with Xai-Xai on the coast and with other towns in Gaza, appearing as long, straight strokes across the open land.
A Chibuto map poster works with a lot of white space: a clear centre, a few long roads and a gradual thinning of streets towards the edges. That openness is part of the town's character, and it makes for a calm, uncluttered print. It is an unusual subject for a wall map, which is exactly why it feels personal.
The town centre is laid out as a small grid of straight streets, the most orderly part of the map and the natural focus of the composition.
Around the town, the low land of the Limpopo basin appears as broad open space crossed by a handful of tracks, giving the poster a spacious feel.
Long, straight routes leave the town towards the coast and neighbouring districts, drawing strong lines that anchor the centre within the wider landscape.
