Te mapa
Clarksburg is the seat of Harrison County in north-central West Virginia, set where Elk Creek joins the West Fork River among steep, wooded hills. The terrain dictates everything on the map. The downtown occupies the flatter land near the water, and neighbourhoods spread up hollows and along ridges, connected by roads that twist to find a manageable grade.
The downtown itself is a compact grid of older blocks, left from the town's growth in the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, when rail and industry came to the valley. Around it, the river's meanders and the rail lines that follow them make long curving strokes, and several bridges stitch the two banks together.
The town is known as the birthplace of Thomas J. Jackson, the Confederate general later called Stonewall, who was born here in 1824. A Clarksburg map poster focuses on the everyday shape of the place: streets that bend around hills, follow the West Fork and gather into a small, dense centre that still anchors the county.
The river loops through the town in broad meanders. It is one of the defining lines on the print and the reason the city grew where it did.
A tight grid of older blocks fills the flatter ground near the river, a clear urban core set against the irregular pattern of the hills.
Residential streets climb into narrow valleys and along ridgelines, forming branching, tree-like patterns typical of towns in the West Virginia hills.
