Te mapa
Georgetown University occupies a hill at the western end of the Georgetown neighbourhood in Washington, D.C., where the land rises steeply from the Potomac River. On the map, the campus forms a large irregular block of lawns and buildings, with the dense, narrow-lot streets of the historic neighbourhood running east of it and the river curving past below.
Founded in 1789, it is the oldest Catholic and Jesuit institution of higher learning in the United States. Healy Hall, with its tall clock tower, faces east over the neighbourhood from the front of campus, while the Chesapeake and Ohio Canal and the Francis Scott Key Bridge sit just below the hill, tracing lines along the waterfront.
A Georgetown University map poster shows how closely the university and its neighbourhood are stitched together. The regular blocks around M Street and Wisconsin Avenue, with their side streets and alleys, give way to the curving roads and quads of campus, then to the wooded edge of Glover Archbold Park and the river. It is a compact map with plenty of texture.
The main gates on 37th Street open onto Healy Lawn and Healy Hall, the Victorian building whose clock tower is visible from across the Potomac in Virginia.
The C&O Canal runs just below the campus hill beside the Potomac, two parallel waterlines that give the southern edge of the map a clean, layered look.
East of campus, the historic neighbourhood's narrow blocks of rowhouses form one of the finest-grained street patterns in Washington, a strong contrast with the larger campus buildings.

Koteā ko Georgetown University
Georgetown years tend to be tied to a small set of places: the front lawn, the steps down to the waterfront, a favourite rowhouse on a side street. A map puts all of them in their true proportions, and the neighbourhood's density makes for a detailed poster.
