Codru is a town within Chișinău Municipality, directly adjoining the south-western edge of the Moldovan capital. On the map it is hard to tell exactly where the city ends and Codru begins: city streets continue into the town, while houses with long garden plots and green patches become more common towards the outskirts.
The name refers to the Codri, the forested hills of central Moldova that stretch west of the capital. The land around Codru rises and falls, and streets tend to follow the slopes rather than a strict grid. Residential lanes, a few main roads into Chișinău and open green land make up most of the picture.
