Courbevoie lies just west of Paris in Hauts-de-Seine, on the left bank of a wide bend in the Seine. The map shows two worlds side by side. The other is the large-scale grid of La Défense, the business district that Courbevoie shares with its neighbour Puteaux.
La Défense is built on a huge raised platform, or dalle, that continues the historic axis running from the Louvre through the Arc de Triomphe.
