Te mapa
Cuautitlán Izcalli, in the State of Mexico just north of the capital, was founded in 1971 as a planned city, and the map shows it. Instead of a single historic centre, the area is made of distinct neighbourhoods with looping streets, cul-de-sacs and ringed layouts, separated by broad avenues. The Mexico–Querétaro highway cuts through the city, and industrial zones line the main corridors.
The city was designed to take pressure off Mexico City's growth, with housing, industry and services grouped in planned sectors. Its western side reaches the Lago de Guadalupe, a reservoir surrounded by hills and green space, and older villages absorbed by the new city still show up as small knots of irregular streets within the modern plan.
A Cuautitlán Izcalli map poster is a portrait of twentieth-century planning. The curving residential pattern gives the print a flowing, almost organic texture, the highway provides a strong diagonal, and the reservoir adds a clear area of water. It is a far more graphic map than many would expect from a commuter city.
Residential districts were laid out with curving roads and closed loops rather than a grid, which gives the map a distinctive, rippling texture across most of the frame.
The federal highway toward Querétaro runs through the city as a wide, continuous line, dividing districts and anchoring the composition with a strong directional stroke.
The reservoir on the city's western side appears as an irregular body of water edged by hills, a calm counterpoint to the dense housing further east.

For families who moved to Izcalli in its early decades, and for those who grew up in its colonias, the map records a city that was imagined on paper before it was built. It also appeals to anyone interested in urban design.
Personalise the title, subtitle and coordinates line with your colonia or a family date, and select Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand. Get the HD files for $9 or a printed poster, with an optional wooden frame.
