Te mapa
Dajin lies in the rugged north-east of Chongqing, where the land folds into steep ridges and deep valleys. On a map, the settlement stretches along a valley floor rather than spreading in a grid, with streets following the line of the valley and roads zigzagging up the surrounding slopes. Small hamlets and terraced fields appear scattered across the hillsides.
This part of Chongqing lies between the Yangtze and the Daba Mountains, an area of limited flat ground where towns tend to occupy every available shelf of land. Agriculture has traditionally been carried out on terraces cut into the slopes, and new roads and tunnels have gradually reduced the isolation of mountain communities like this one.
A Dajin map poster is less about dense city blocks and more about the way a town adapts to mountains. The narrow, elongated shape of the settlement and the curling roads above it create a composition full of movement, well suited to the Blueprint style or the soft contrast of Paper.
Buildings and streets line the valley floor in a long, narrow band, giving the town an elongated shape determined entirely by the terrain.
Mountain roads loop and double back as they climb out of the valley, producing expressive, calligraphic lines across the upper part of the map.
Small clusters of houses sit on ledges and slopes around the town, scattered marks that hint at farms and terraces beyond the centre.

Koteā ko Dajin
For people who grew up in the mountains of Chongqing and moved to the city or abroad, a map of Dajin brings back the shape of the valley and the roads home. It reads as a personal landscape rather than a tourist souvenir.
