Te mapa
El Sombrero lies in the state of Guárico, in the central llanos of Venezuela, the great grassland plains that stretch south toward the Orinoco. The landscape around the town is flat and open, crossed by straight roads, fences and seasonal watercourses. Seen from above, the town is a compact block of streets set in a very large, quiet space.
The llanos are cattle country, and much of the surrounding land is given over to ranching and farming. Towns like El Sombrero serve as local centres along the roads that cross the plains, gathering markets, schools and services. The street layout is largely orthogonal, with a central plaza and blocks extending outward until they meet open fields.
An El Sombrero map poster is about the contrast between order and openness. The grid of the town sits cleanly in the middle, roads run out toward the edges, and the rest of the sheet stays spare. It is a restrained image that suits anyone with a connection to Guárico and the wide horizons of the Venezuelan plains.
The town sits on the flat grasslands of central Venezuela, so the surrounding map is mostly open ground crossed by a few straight roads and tracks.
Streets follow a largely regular pattern around a central square, a layout common to plains towns and easy to read at any poster size.
Long routes leave the town in several directions across the plains, drawing clean lines from the dense centre to the edges of the frame.

For people from Guárico, or those who have family on the llanos, El Sombrero on the wall is a reminder of a specific horizon and a specific street. The simple plan also works well as a quiet graphic piece.
