Te mapa
Eminönü occupies the northern shore of Istanbul's historic peninsula, facing the Golden Horn just before it opens into the Bosphorus. On a map the waterline is the dominant feature: a curving edge lined with ferry terminals, with the Galata Bridge striking north across the inlet toward Karaköy. Behind the shore the street pattern turns dense and irregular, a web of narrow lanes climbing uphill toward the older core of the city.
This has been a commercial hinge of Istanbul for centuries. The Spice Bazaar, also known as the Egyptian Bazaar, and the New Mosque stand close to the water, and the Grand Bazaar lies a short walk uphill. Eminönü was a district in its own right until it was merged into Fatih in 2009, but the name remains in everyday use for this crowded waterfront and its market streets.
Seen from above, the area rewards close attention. The broad grounds of Topkapı Palace and Gülhane Park sit to the east, while to the west the market quarter tightens into tiny blocks. An Eminönü map poster sets all of this against the open water, so the Golden Horn and the Bosphorus become negative space that frames the dense city on the peninsula.
The bridge crosses the Golden Horn from Eminönü to Karaköy, drawing a straight, deliberate line across open water that links the historic peninsula with the districts on the northern shore.
Piers for boats across the Bosphorus and up the Golden Horn line the shore, giving the coastline a finely notched edge where land and water meet.
Around the Spice Bazaar and uphill toward the Grand Bazaar, streets break into small, irregular blocks, one of the densest and most intricate textures on any map of Istanbul.

A map of Istanbul often tries to show everything. This one focuses on the point where the city's waters meet and where its trade has gathered for generations. It suits anyone who has crossed the Galata Bridge at dusk or caught a ferry from these piers.
Personalise the title, subtitle and coordinates line, perhaps with the year of a trip or a family story, and choose one of five styles: Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand. The HD files cost $9 and cover six print sizes.
