Te mapa
Envigado lies just south of Medellín, on the eastern side of the Aburrá Valley. The city begins at the valley floor, where the Medellín River and the Metro line run north–south, and climbs steadily east towards the ridge at Las Palmas. From above, the lower streets form a close grid, and higher up they give way to switchbacks and mountain roads.
The city centre is still arranged around its main park and church, with a tight network of commercial streets. Envigado is often cited as one of the most livable municipalities in Colombia. It was also the home of the philosopher and writer Fernando González, whose house, Otraparte, is now a cultural centre.
An Envigado map poster traces a city shaped by the slope. Streams run down from the hills in narrow green valleys, and residential towers and older houses line the grid below. The western edge is the river and transport corridor shared with Medellín, Itagüí and Sabaneta, all part of the same valley.
The river, the Metro line and the regional highway run side by side along the valley floor, forming the western edge of the city.
East of the centre, streets climb the valley side in bends and switchbacks, turning a regular grid into tangled mountain roads.
The historic centre is organised around its main park and church, a compact heart of blocks, shops and plazas.
